ASI1600mm-cool fan failing?

How can I tell if my fan on the 1600mm-cool is failing?

it's making a lot of noise like a buzzing and at one point it stopped turning. I powered down and back up the camera and the fan is running again, but it is very noisy.

can you loose these screws a little to check if its better?

Hi sam,

I confirmed that it was indeed a problem with the fan.

I removed the back cover and had the fan running completely away from all parts and possible obstructions. It makes a terrible noise. These fans do not fail very often, but the noise is definitely coming from just the fan.

Good news is it looks fairly easy to fix, if you can send me a replacement?

Hello Sam

New member not sure if I can send you a pm directly or just have to post publicly. I have similar issue where my fan appeared to stop working? I use SGP and the camera operates fine, however I don't see any evidence of the fan turning on. The camera cools as I watch it on SGP not quite to the temperature I want -20 ( I do understand it won't cool considering outdoor temp) but the strangest part is the camera feels hot to the touch. I never really touched the camera in the past since I remotely operate my scope but is that normal? I called high point scientific in case I have to get it serviced but my fear is how long will it take to get serviced if we determine there is an issue? I will do more testing overnight.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

What I found was that a) the camera cooler ran at 100% on even modest cooling and b) the fan never seemed to turn on

If you find both of those are the case, swapping out for a new fan is relatively easy, provided you can get a replacement one sent to you

you just need to remove the back cover and it's pretty self-explanatory from there
