The ADC in ALT-AZ mount setup?

Hi,

Recently got the ADC, but still cloudy.

Also just got an AZ-EQ6 mount, and while actually reading the manual I saw that ALT-AZ mode could be used for, visual of course, but also planetary imaging. I have never used other than EQ-mounts, and did not think more of it at that point.

But then I read in the (new, yay!) ZWO ADC manual, that "You need to align the horizontal direction again after an hour".

Could I actually save some adjustment work by just choosing ALT-AZ mode for planets?

Maybe too good to be true, maybe there's too much field rotation in 4 minutes or so, for alignment. Or som other snag.

I'm willing to experiment, but I'd like to first hear from others having tried/used ALT-AZ mode on planetary, especially with an ADC unit.

It's really a good question, because It is related to ADC principle.

ALT-AZ mode is just like DOB, and direction of image will always same as earth horizon. So you never need to adjusting zero angle on tracking planets.

about rotation of planets images, you can learn to use Winjupos(a software for planets image processing) align rotation.

Well, I'd be surprised if WinJUPOS also fixed field rotation, but I've emailed them just out of curiosity :)

..prompt answer from Grischa at WinJUPOS:

"The WinJUPOS module "De-rotation of video streams" supports Alt-Az mounts with field rotation (check "Compensation of field rotation in altitude over azimut mounts").

Important is that your "Image measurement of a preliminary image from the original video" has correct time (UT) and geographic co-ordinates (Long/Lat)."

Surprised to find explicit alt-az support!

Will try. Maybe there's no need to compensate for field rotation if recording so short that WinJUPOS is not required.
