ASI017MC-Cool and Auto darks

I know that some high end CCD cameras come with inbuilt shutters that allow darks to be taken automatically as part of a scripted session. Out of the box, an ASI017 doesn't have a shutter so auto darks are not possible.

I do however remember reading some time ago that it is possible on some cameras to effectively simulate a shutter by software which causes the chip to dump the signal. Is this possible with the ASI017 and if so how?

I think an electronic filter wheel can simulate a shutter, just need to make a filter light-proof.

in this way you can control camera and filter wheel by software to get dark frame.
