ASI224MC expected FPS when capturing

Hi all,

Is there an expected number of FPS I should expect when doing basic captures? I feel that for my system specs I should not be getting the low FPS I encounter when making captures. Even with low exposure settings in Firecap or Sharpcap the FPS counter is still low. Like 3-8 FPS.

I see in another thread someone changed the supplied cable and this fixed their problem. Its something worth trying, but I just wanted to see what I should be expecting.

For example:

When capturing Saturn or Jupiter in 1304x976. Gain=199 Exposure=0.132185. This yielded a very low FPS of about 13. Is that to be expected? The USB setting were set to auto. My laptop is an Intel I7 with USB 3.0 and 8 gigs of RAM.

If your exposure is around 0.1s you can only get about 10 fps.

If you want more fps you should decrease exposure - alas this also means you should increase gain (or buy bigger aperture scope so you get more light).

Also you could use ROI so you don't get useless black space - this means your files will be smaller and also can increase fps (if your exposure allows it).

It turns out that the supplied cable that I received with my camera was faulty. I purchased a new one just to see, and it was definitely the problem. Purchasing the new 3rd party 3.0 cable solved my issue.

if you set the Exposure=0.132185.

then fps=1/Exp=7.5

I don't think a bad cable cause low fps, usually bad cable only cause bad connection

When using the old cable and getting low frames, and then swapping it out with the new one is night and day in terms of what the camera is getting in regards to FPS within Sharpcap.

This is simply just with the camera plugged into the back of my telescope with no barlow or anything.
