ASI071mc Dewing

HI,

I have purchased a new ASI071MC only to discover that a temperature bellow 0C the chip is covered with dew. I have purchased a dew heater for this camera but the problem remain.

I also added the extra tube with absorbant but it made no difference either.

Any idea if there is a cure to that problem or if I need to return the camera to the dealer?

Hi Vince

you can do like this:

put the desiccant tablets into microwave oven for heating about 2 mins

then add it to the tube , this may help

Hi I also purchase an ASI071 in May and since the first time I used it I had ice so I activated the anti dew option in the ascom driver I have no longer ice but i still have strong dew problem on the sensor below -5°c. I tried to lengthen the cooling time but without good results so I decided to put the desiccant tube with 2 tablets but I have a question: do the desicant tube must rest in place after 24h or can we take it off and replace it by the original screw ?

we found the air socket screw in our first batch of 071 is too long

so please check it at first

the long one touch the heat board and cause the camera is not sealed

we can send some short screws to our dealer and our dealer can send it to you to replace the old one

About desiccant tube:

it is not as effective as put the desiccant tablets in the camera body

but it still works, so you can use the short screws after 48 hours

you need to put these desiccant tablets into microwave oven for 2 mins at first

I think Sam was saying the opposite - that putting them in the camera isn't as effective. but i could be mistaken here

there is already desiccant tablets inside the camera

we put 4 total on the PCB board, we used double side adhesive tape fix them

so yes, you can open the blank cover and redry the tablets

this is the most effective way to dry the CMOS chamber

I never push the cam @-15C and never see ice but i can visually see dew @-10 C on the sensor with a brand new camera (2 nights usage)

Is there a serial number for the first 071 batch, or something i can check to see if i get the long screw without opening the camera ?

Can i check for this defect externaly ?

I buy this cam in the first day of july 17.

I'm preparing for the summer sessions on august and really want to avoid opening the cam since then.

Did you have internal photo of the ASI071 as you provided for the ASI1600.

I can only see 2 dessicants tabs looking thru the clear AR glass.

As i understand, the better method to dry the cam, is to open it and change the Four dessicant tablets with four hot new tablets, then seal the cam and wait for more than 2 days.

your can unscrew the chamber seal screw and measure the length of it

the short one is 5mm and long one is 6mm (screw only)

I think you can attach the desiccant tube if you don't wish to open the camera

just put the desiccant tablets into microwave oven for 2 mins before use it.

I finally open the camera and there were 3 tablets I put them 2 minutes in the microwave (700w) and put them back with an additional one from the kit that comes with the camera (they are thicker that those in the camera) and wait 48 h ....now I can go to -25 without dew neither ice !!!

yes, put desiccant tablets into the CMOS chamber is the best way to get rid of humidity

I'm back with ....dewing problem AGAIN !!!

At -10° I have again dew on the sensor. I dont understand I regenerate the dessicant tablet in microwave it works few weeks and now dew is back !!! I dont know what to do. I bought new set of dessicant tablet and put them in standard owen (not microwave) at 200° celcius for 90mn (I use to do that with an Atik and it was working well).

I'm wondering if there is a problem of airtightness in this camera model.

I !have not! this on my board - camera is second handed and I noticed it while replacing dessicant

today. What is it ?

when you say you have a dewing problem, how long do you allow the sensor to cool down, and how long does the dewing last?

Yes - I got dew problems also - but this is not my thread ...

after 30 min of cooling from ambient to -15. Dew was present for about half hour and gone ...

Extra tube solved the problem. But I decided to put new set of them (dessicant) inside. And clean the sensor with air ;-)

@Jeanluc - just a couple things to confirm/try.

if you get excessive dewing, you might try a slightly higher target temp. During summer months here my target is 0C (instead of my winter -10C or -20C)

your cooldown to target temp should be reached over a period of time - i typically do 30 minutes. Fast cooldown results in dewing

Even then, i find i may have to wait an additional 10-20 minutes for dewing to be completely gone. Having reasonable expectation helps here.

I have the ASI071MC-Cool heater, and from what I can tell, it doesn't really help with anti-dewing
