I find the IMX428 the most attractive chip for future mono CMOS cameras.
This should be a direct replacement for the well-known (super performing) CCD chip ICX694 that is a killer for narrow-band imaging (but it has 5e- readout noise) while the improved 3rd generation of pregious global shutter shall have about 2.5e-. That would be significant improvement over ICX694. Also, I like the 3 format much better than 5 of ICX694, but that's the minor thing.
Sure, it would be an expensive chip (even the IMX428 variant of IMX420), but what can be done about it? I want the best and am willing to pay some extra $$$ for it :)
edit: the only concern is the amp-glow issue common to all SONY chips - provided it is manageable and the chip can be reasonably cooled (speaking about issues of IMX249) it would be a really great option...
