Anything Less than 1 second image download issue

I'm using an ASI071MC-cool. A 25' USB 3.0 repeater cable from a USB 3.0 TrendNet ExpresCard

I'm using Astro Photography Tool and SGPro.

If I set image time for anything less than 1 second the image will not download just hangs.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

I have changed cables, removed the USB 3 powered hub from the loop.

Hi Paul,

Your situation is normal.

If you want exposure time less than 1s and transmit stability, you must use a shorter cable.

When exposure time is greater than 1s, we will enable a wait mode in our camera. This means that we will wait for data before transmission. If image time less than 1s, we will close this mode, Because it takes too long, and affect the frame rate.

For a long cable, the transmission is unstable. the wait mode has some effect on solving the problem. If close the wait mode, the transport will go wrong.

Beside, In the USB3.0 specification, the maximum transmission distance is 5m. even 5m requires a very good cable. So we really can't guarantee the results of such a long cable.

Can the wait mode be changed, or is it factory set?

Hi Paul，

As you know, long exposure and short exposure is different. And we use different exposure strategies in different exposure modes. The wait mode is one of the patterns that needs to be used in the long exposure strategy. So you can not change the wait mode, it is used inside our camera.

While I understand that you're trying to avoid adding communications overhead, I don't buy that it's just cable length related. I had this problem with the factory cable on the ASI290MC and the ASCOM driver I reported in another thread. My only solution was to fall back to USB 2.0 speeds. Not sure why I bothered with a USB 3.0 camera if it can't work in all modes.

I had two different threads where I was describing what I'm trying and where I was having problems both with ASCOM and DirectShow.

At this point I've just about given up on iSpy and the DirectShow driver. The crash is occurring too deeply in the OS to even run the debugger on it. For ASCOM I've been trying to work with Michael Poelzl's AllSkEye. It's exhibiting the same deBayering issue reported in one of the previous threads that he's traced to missing line(s) from the downloaded stream. One thing that would be of great help to using AllSkEye would be if the ASCOM driver had an option to apply the same sort of auto exposure and gain control that the DirectShow driver does. Currently AllSkEye only does exposure control and thus without gain control cannot cover the dynamic range change needed between day and night.
