Glow problem with ASI1600MMC

Hi,

I have a terrible glow issue with my ASI1600MMC which I am trying to troubleshoot. The camera was bought in march 2017 and it is only now that I have had the chance to user it properly. Driver version is: 2.0.1.3 and ASI ASCOM driver: 6.0.2.25.

See the attached image. Images were taken at -20 degrees C, 180 seconds at 0 gain- only STF stretch applied. Image on the left is a 180 sec dark frame. Camera's usb cable is connecting to a USB3 hub and the hub is connecting to a USB 3 port on my laptop. Connecting cables are USB3.

Is this amp glow? I don't know what to try to fix the issue- have tried everything I can think of. Please help!

Same problem here. I bought the camera about 3-4 weeks ago at my german dealer and took some images of NGC 281. You can see the glow in the single images and in bias and flat calibratetd stack (see attachment, 14x300s, Gain=139, Offset=10, bandwidth=40, temperature=-20°C, USB3, latest INDI driver). So I captured arks with different configurations: Laptop (Intel i7 cpu, Linux Mint 18.2) and an ODROID XU4 (ARM cpu, Ubuntu 16.04) and latest INDI drivers.

I tested USB 3, USB 2, bandwidth 40-100, different gain, exposure times, temperature and so on - no big difference. Higher bandwidth seems to be better but the glow is still visible.

I also tried several power supplies and ordered the power adapter from ZWO - no change.

I really like the camera but amp glow remembers me of my old Canon EOS 350D DSLR and wasted time for dark exposures :(

Edit 27/10/2017. I have now tried a number of things including upgrading the drivers and the ascom platform but this has not helped. It just created more problems in that my laptop running windows 8.1 had problems recognizing the device. I have now reverted to the old drivers.

I noticed today that when I opened the device settings in SGP that it would sometimes say via usb2 and sometimes 'via usb 3.0'. Why is this?

it show via USB2.0 when the connection is not very stable with USB3.0

can we do a remote check with your camera?

Yes, I am interested. How do you do this remote check?

I have now bought another USB 3.0 cable (3m) and upgraded to the latest drivers and ascom platform. The information in SGP now says 'via USB3' I still have glow on 180s subs. On 60s luminance subs it is much less.

So some more information in this case.

We bought the camera from the Widescreen Centre in the UK 10 months ago. We have been in touch with them for atleast 3 months (the first email to Simon went unanswered until we actually called them). We have since then been in touch with them several times over the last two months to try to get the camera returned.

They have constantly said that they are waiting to hear back from their supplier who in turn is waiting for a response from ZWO as to how to proceed with the return.

This is extremely frustrating as they (WSC) are apologetic but I feel that we are not being taken seriously. We have offered to buy a new version of the camera (Pro) and pay the difference but they have not been able to give a clear answer. We have also supplied all the information where ZWO themselves have confirmed that the camera looks to be faulty. It is quite telling that they have not processed a return of the camera as it is within the timeframe and framework specified in the CRA 2015.

What do we do? Is there anything ZWO can do? We feel that we are getting nowhere with WSC and are left with a product which is not fit for purpose.

So now it seems the issue is resolved. WSC has provided a replacement camera, 3 months after we first contacted them regarding problems. Initial testing shows that even with 5 min exposures there is very little glow on the edges.
