Which camera for Hyperstar?

Hi,

I currently own an ASI 224 which I use for planetary imaging with fantastic results. I’ve also just purchased a Hyperstar for my 6inch SCT, and am looking to buy a cooled camera for beginner DSO imaging.

I’m based in Singapore, and will be imaging from heavily light polluted areas, with an IDAS DS1 LP filter. Which camera would suit best? Choices are:

1. ASI 178

2. ASI 224 (keep using the uncooled one I have)

3. ASI 385

If none of the above, then which? The Hyperstar can only illuminate a sensor up to 16mm.

I think you need a big one such like ASI1600

Thanks for replying. I had emailed earlier, and had a discussion with Sean. The first recommendation was to go with the 294pro. However, the 6 inch Hyperstar can only illuminate a sensor that's 16mm or less. Both the 1600pro and 294pro are larger sensors, and would waste a lot of sensor space.

I ultimately ended up ordering the 385 cooled from your online site. Please let me know if this is the wrong choice, and I can cancel and change the order.

Another question is that I'll be imaging in 28-35 degree weather, with 15-20 second subs. Will the cooled 385 be a much better option than just using the normal 385?

cooler is useful for exposure longer than some seconds

I suggest you can try ASI178MC-Cool

the amp-glow of 385 is worse than 178

so for long exposure 178 is better

I've already received the 385 that I ordered from your site. Will the 178 cooled be significantly better with 20 second exposures?
