ASI 1600mm-c pro, ASCOM and MaxIm DL 5

Hi, I'm a new user of 1600 Pro camera, but I'm having a terrible time getting it to work under Maxim.

I have downloaded and installed latest drivers for the camera as well as ACSOM. The camera works fine, I get images, I can guide, filter wheel works, the lot. What DOESN'T work is cooling.

As soon as I connect to camera via Maxim (using ASCOM), fan stops. After clicking on "cooler" button in Maxim nothing happens. Cooler power stays at 0%, and temperature also stays the same.

Windows7 Proffesional, 64 bit, service pack 1

MaximDL version 5.03

ASI driver set 3.0.0.2

ASCOM driver 1.0.3.8 (tried 1.0.3.3, the same, with older driver 1.0.2.25 cannot connect thru Maxim at all, and ASCOM 6.3 diagnostic also cannot detect the camera at all "No ASI camera detected")

The cooling actually works, nothing wrong with the camera, it cools fine through SharpCap. It is something in ASCOM drivers that clashes with Maxim ...

Hi Bratislav，

Have you ever set the temperature of cooling? If your temperature is higher then the sensor, it won't work.

Beside, you should plug the 12V into the camera when you cooling.

Hi Chad,

yes of course I have set it to desired -20, then -5 and even 0. (I've been using Maxim for nearly 15 years). The cooler never comes on.

And yes, I have plugged 12V, otherwise SharpCap couldn't cool it (and as I said, it does).

Of course SharpCap uses native driver, while MaxIm uses ASCOM.

It is a MaxIm DL 5 bug.

I have tried another software that uses ASCOM interface (APT) and it controls the cooler fine.

Newer (demo) versions of Maxim also work.
