USB2 devices plugged into 1600MM port

The 1600MM COOL is a USB 3 device and has the correct cable for that use. However, if I have a USB 2 guide camera plugged into one of the USB2 ports on the 1600MM, does this effectively make the camera a USB 2 device also? I hope my question makes sense ;)

Sorry if that USB3 vs USB2 question sounds witless. When I have my USB2 guide cam plugged into the 1600MM's USB2 hub and then plug the 1600MM USB3 into my laptop's USB3 port, I get a message suggesting my computer sees it as a USB2 device.

This problem still happens, but independently of the guide camera. Problem may be in my laptop, An Acer, because it can't recognize the ASI1600 as USB3 no matter how I connect it. The same port on the computer works fine with a USB3 stick. :

I am giving up this topic, this has turned into a really weird problem that I think is related to the USB system or circuitry on my laptop. The 1600 works, then it doesn't. its recognized as USB 3 and then recognized but marked "device cannot start" and then it works again. Not all at the same time, but as I go about trying to track this down.. At least, the ASI1600MM is innocent : It works fine on 2 other computers, a big desktop and an old, slow laptop. Maybe conflicts with my 120MM guide camera, sometimes but not always. Gosh.

I use a ASI120MM plugged into my ASI1600MM-C (as well as a USB-RS232 adaptor for the mount), though my astronomy laptop only has USB2 ports. To get the two cameras working together I had to reduce both of their USB bandwidths to 40%.

As with any hub, the one on the ASI1600 will only run at the lowest standard, so if there is a USB2 device plugged in then the ASI1600 will only communicate with the laptop at USB2 speeds, that's the main reason I haven't updated my laptop.

This pretty much confirms what I have been suspecting. I was afraid it sounded foolish : :

I was also having problems with the general fickleness of USB devices.

I guess I can plug my guide cam into a USB2 port on my computer and the 1600MM into the USB3 port and get the higher speed.

What is the correct connection for a the ASI 120 super speed and the ASI 1600 pro? Both are USB 3.0. I have 1 USB 3.0 port on laptop. The USB "IN" and "OUT" ports on the 1600 are confusing and don't make sense to me.

USB out means hub

you need to connnect your 120 to the hub
