ASI 1600 Pro Pattern Noise

I received a 1600 MM c Pro and am having a problem with some kind of fixed pattern noise. I dither my subs and I have not been able to solve the problem with any form of calibration. I have switched power supplies and filters and that has not solved the problem. I went back into my folders and found a master bias from before this problem occurred and it is relatively smooth and flat. My current master bias shows strong vertical dark lines. I am attaching jpgs of the old and new bias frames and a sample image all standard stretched in Pixinsight. I can provide the fits files if needed. Please help.

This is interesting. I've been having a similar problem with my Pro as well. I was thinking it was frost but now you have me wondering. I haven't taken a bias frame shot yet, but will now that I see this.

Same here with 1600mm pro, the green channel is the worst, blue also not the best, red is not so bad.

Looks like the pro ver. have some problem.

How many subs did you make for each channel?

The relections around the brighter stars look like issues that have been reported by those who muse ZWO filters - are you using ZWO filters?

The reflection are bad but i worry more about pattern noise.

So I tried another set of subs tonight at -30C. I just registered them and integrated them (no calibration) and the pattern looks exactly the same. So I'm thinking this is not frost/dew. Any ideas?

I was hoping you wouldn't say that. I am leaving on a 9 day astrophotography trip next week. I think I will take the camera with me for some more testing before I do any returns on it. Here are some images that show what I am seeing.

The images are made up of 45 images each at 60s for the RGB and 30 at 300s for the Ha. The screenshot shows each image and a 100% view to the right of each one. The Ha doesn't seem to be as bad, but I think that the nebulosity hides it more. It is definitely there still.

The Bias and Dark frames do not seem to be that different to me.

Hello Sam. I also bought ASI 1600 MM Pro around the end of november directly from you (order 8660) and wonder if mine is also affected. Weather is bad here in Bulgaria so i doubt that i will have a chance for proper test before spring. If there is a way to see if my camera is affected by the problem via remote session or by sending you darks and/or bias frames please tell me. I sent you mail yesterday regarding that but have still not received a reply. As i bought it directly from you returning for RMA (if needed) can take quite a long time and i don't want to see the problem in a few months just before the start of active observing season here. Here are links to a master bias created by 100 frames of 0.4 second each at gain 76 and temp -15 deg. I also attach master dark from 20x5 min darks at the same gain and temperature like the bias. Dark is not calibrated with the bias.

Sorry for this issue.

For this problems, Remote control checking does not work very well， We need your original image that you think is problematic.

So if you send email to us, please indicate the problem of the image, as well as the link to the original image (instead of the attachment, the original image is usually large, and we may not receive the attachment). Even better if you can tell the setting.

After this, if we need check something by remote control, we will email you.

I purchased ASI1600MM pro in mid November last year, and unfortunately my camera has exactly the same noise issue.

As I’m still a beginner and it’s my first cold CMOS camera, I thought that was caused by my bad calibration or light pollution but the noise is found to be a hardware defect.

I emailed zwo support and Sean and Sam replied quickly and I already returned the camera for repair.

Though, I have been struggling hard to reduce noise with pixinsight cosmetics correction and mask post processing. For bright objects I could still get decent images.

Yes, they repaired my camera and I’ve already received it as I posted to Instagram. But I caught flu this week and weather doesn’t cooperate.

As long as I quickly check the image indoor the horizontal banging with so many cold pixels are fixed, but I still need to check with star lights. I will update as soon as I can get a new image.

It seems like that significant number of users are affected by this defect and I found some announcements from my local, Japanese dealers but no official remarks from ZWO? I wonder if this should deserve recall.

this is a random problem with our first batch of 1600 Pro

not every camera suffer from this issue

so we can only try to help if customer found his camera has this problem

Hi Sam & Company;

I have noticed some simliar (but much less strong) pattern noise on my ASI1600mm-pro as well. (You can see it on the left side of the Iris nebula in the dark dust lane area.) I've included a screen shot showing the darks I used which also exhibit a strong vertical column banding. Is this normal for the 1600mm-pro or would it be a similar noise issue to the original poster? Or am I pushing the noise limits in my stretch?
