I've been using the ASI1600MC-cool with good results and want to expand out a bit to fainter objects. My usual settings have been 120s subs with gain of 139.
If I want to go deeper and at 300s or even 600s subs, I suspect that the gain should be decreased to reduce noise from increased exposure time.
First, am I right about this? Second, is there a thumb rule on changing the gain (assuming my first assumption is correct)? Lastly, I've read in forums that this camera doesn't really need longer exposures - is this true?
