The past couple nights, I have been imaging the areas around the Great Orion Nebula. I usually use either Betelgeuse or Rigel to obtain focus before going off to M42, the Flame, or the Horsehead.
When using a high gain setting on Betelgeuse, I kept noticing a strange artifact, red in color. I suspect it is a reflection of the sensor, but when I tried to duplicate it with a high gain Rigel, no such artifact. I am posting this image to see if any of you has any insight as to the cause of this artifact.
