Dew heater for V3 ASI 1600mm camera

Hi guys,

I just ordered the latest ASI cooled 1600mm mono camera but also ordered the dew heating accessory - however had not realised that the latest 1600mm has a redesigned window to reduce the effects of dewing.

As I intend to use the camera in winter and in the field, just wondering if it is necessary to actually install the dew heating accessory or will this be overkill?

Also - in terms of the small round plastic spacer - what is the purpose of this?

As I understand it, the window wasn’t redesigned but the heat sink was, such that it dumps its heat into the case.

It will probably depend on what type of scope you use...I image all year round with a refractor without issue. If you’re using a reflector where the sensor window is exposed to air, you might want to keep it to hand, just in case.

The small round plastic spacer is for those with the ZWO OAG...it has restricted movement and the spacer can help shift the final orientation of the sensor with respect to the prism.

That's really good info.

I will be imaging with a CDK which has a corrector so it will be sealed I guess.

Might have to return it to ZWO or sell it to someone that will get more use from it.

During winter though it can get to below zero where I image from and everything also runs really wet.

I didn’t have any probs with my v3 last winter, although it wasn’t particularly cold here last winter, low single digits...

I think the “closed” designs, while not air tight, create an air temperature buffer.

With the v1 camera, putting a dew heater around the filter wheel or adapter between the two was popular to warm the air up on the scope side of the sensor window, but I didn’t have any issues with my refractor and v1 either :

So I bought a non-pro ASI1600MM-C back in the Fall from ZWO and just to be clear this does not have heated glass but has a redesigned heat sink to "avoid" dewing?
