ASI178MC Gain/Offset Combinations

Hi @ll,

after more than half a year using the great ASI178MC with several combinations of Gain/Offset, i thought it would be a good idea to stick to only a few standard combinations. So after reading through many posts in several forums i'd like to discuss if these combinations do make sense or if i need to adjust them (the numbers represent the settings in SharpCap, where Gain=Gain and Offset=Brightness):

* LOW: G 85 O 75

* MEDIUM: G 128 O 300

* HIGH: G 192 O 400

Any ideas about these settings? Good or bad?

not bad, offset is just used to avoid data has been clipped below 0

so you can tell from histogram it is OK if no data below 0 with the combination

Thanks for the reply, Sam. It is good to know that the settings are a okay, but i think i have another problem. Whenever i set the brigthness setting (under "image controls") to a value just a bit higher than zero, the whole picture is getting just white. But i think this is no problem with the camera, probably it is the user doing something wrong in sharpcap :-)

I now must only figure out how to tell the camera to use the correct offset. Note: I do not use ASCOM, i use the native driver. Do you have any hint regarding this?

we don't recommend user to use sharpcap for DSO imaging as this is planetary imaging software although it can do some DSO job
