290 Mini USB over LAN Wont Work

I just purchased the 290mm mini which seems like a superb guide camera so far. Unfortunately though I am unable to operate the camer via USB over LAN. Ive had to set up a 2nd computer at my imaging rig and use a remote admin software to operate it. This is a huge pain seeings that everything else on my mount is hardwired to a single remote PC.

Am I missing somthing here? Why will this not work? Ive literally tried everything I can think of including running new, premium CAT6 riser cable. Updating the drivers has done nothing. It just wont work, not in SharpCap, not in PHD, or PHD2

All of the ZWO ASI Cameras are capable of, and default configured to, very high data rates across their USB2 and USB3 Interfaces.

So high that they can often swamp / overload the Host USB Ports of the PC (especially most lower-spec machines).

1) You need to configure the Camera for lower USB Throughput (40%), assuming you can connect SharpCap or FireCap to connect via your USB-LAN Connection.

2) You should test with just the USB Cable that was supplied with the Camera - to prove to yourself that there is no problem with the PC Host USB Port supporting the Data Rate of your Camera. Then you can confirm whether the issue is the USB-LAN Converter.

The camera is fine over USB, the issue seems to be come down to the LAN cables. At this point ive tried 5 different brands and styles of network cable and two different extenders. Every piece of equipment that I own works over these cable except for the ZWO camera. 4 different DSLRS T5, 70D, 7D and a 7D MarkII, and an mount, also tried three different laptops, all of them are current technology I5, I7, I3. The I7 laptop is my workhorse computer, It is configured to run resource intensive graphics programs. Im running 16Gb Ram on a 64bit system which is powered by a quadcore cpu .

Even using a 6 inch piece of LAN cable between the ZWO 290mm mini camera and the laptop prevents the camera from passing data. The device will connect, but will not feed / stream image data.

The only think I have not tried was adjusting the cameras throughput, im going to look into doing that now and will post back . Id really like to get this working before the weather breaks for the season.

While it does sound like you've done a good bit of general testing with your various DSLRs, none of them are capable or configured to Flood the USB Port such as the ZWO Cameras are known to by Default.

Canon, as with most large Consumer Goods Manufacturers, works from the standpoint that "Consumer Frustration and Support Calls are MORE COSTLY than a Minor Reduction in USB Transfer Rate".

The only scenario that most folks can configure which approaches the High USB Data Rate of the ZWO Cameras would be to have a Fast Desktop HDD or SSD in an External USB3 Drive Case, and then to attempt to Copy a large ISO or AVI from that External Drive onto an equally fast Internal SSD or M.2.

So, you will quite likely need to figure out how to work the USB Data Rate Configuration in SharpCap or your chosen Capture App.

this is because the bandwidth of LAN(100M) is too narrow compare with USB2.0(480M) port

so you can try some small resolution such like 320*240 and set the exposure to 50ms

so the data flow is not so huge
