ASI 1600, Lodestar 2 and Maxim DL

I am using the ASI 1600mmcool pro with an OAG and the Lodestar 2 and Maxim DL. The lodestar is plugged into the camera USB and is assigned camera 2, the imaging camera is camera 1. Guiding works fine, except when I start an exposure, guiding is put on hold until the exposure is complete. During the exposure I get the message "Reading CCD Camera". Why can't I guide and image simultaneously like I am supposed to?

Come on--someone must know how to use the camera with an OAG and Maxim--they are all very popular. I am really up against it here and am dead in the water.

Update--I tried using a ZWO ASI 174 to guide and it WAS recognized, but guiding still was put on hold during exposure. When the exposure was done guiding resumed. Also--there is no way to bring the ASI 174 into focus with the OAG--I tried everything.
