Best ZWO monochrome cam for a C9.25 (290mm or 120 mms)

Hi all,

As the thread title suggests I’m looking for the best optimized monochrome cam from ZWO to be used for high resolution planetary imaging especially Mars with a Celestron C9.25 (fl = 2350mm).

I have read reviews where it said that the ASI 290 mm is better suited for larger aperture scopes and might be “overkill” for a C9.25.

Would an ASI 120 mms (super high FPS model) be better for my scope setup?

And additionally is there another ZWO monochrome cam best suited for use with a C9.25 (newer cams included) other than the two I mentioned?

Sam or anyone, any guidance you can provide here?

The 120mms have gotten very affordable now but I don’t want to waste my money on it if another camer would be better.

Same goes for the 290 mm, if it’s going to be overkill for a C9.25 then I want to avoid that route.

Anyone can provide some feedback here?

It is maybe late and i don't know what did you buy already.

My choice will be either 290 or same my camera i use which is ASI385MC, ASI224MC is same as this 385 but less resolution, but if you really want a mono camera then i think the best option is 290 definitely, in fact i am planning to get this camera or 174mm so i can use it for solar and lunar too, but sounds i will start with 290, i don't have C9.25 but i have a 7" Mak, so it isn't a bad option after all.

I know this is a very old post but if I may add something to the post which others may pick up on:

I purchased the ASI 290mm and although I am haing some dropped frames issue which I hope to resolve by adding a SSD I find the camera very promising for planetary with my C9.25".

Another point which I would like to add is - I have a Lunt H-Alpha scope and with my old ASI120mm USB II camera I used to get terrible Newton's rings, however with the 290mm I am pleased to report using the same H-Alpha OTA I no longer get them.
