Fan control

Hi there,

I am the happy owner of an ASI 183MM Pro, which I am (also) using for sub-arcsecond planetary imaging (through the Linux INDI driver) at a Newton focus. Because I am doing very short exposures, I am using the cooling feature only to make sure that the detector operates at a constant temperature (5 or 10 deg. Celsius, typically), in order to get consistent Darks.

Unfortunately, even when the temperature difference with ambiant is only a few degrees, the cooling fan speed seems quite high; generating both turbulence and a small, but detrimental amount of vibration in the instrument. This has a detectable impact on image quality. The air coming out of the camera is cold, so it seems to me that the camera could be safely operating at a much lower fan speed, or even fanless.

Would it be possible to add a fan speed control feature, or even the possibility to turn off the fan for small Delta-T's?

Hi there

Our hardware don't have Fan speed controller, so fan speed is unchanged. If you don't want it run, only way is open the back piece of camera, unplug in the power port from socket.

I can certainly do that. Won't it break the warranty?

I think I read somewhere that the ASCOM driver used to have a fan deactivation switch. Is that right? I get from your answer that the fan cannot be turned off by software?

There is no switch in software, unplugin Fan power won't break the warranty. if you need cooling down much, you must plugin it back.
