Auto gain/exposure algorithm details

I am seeking information about the algorithms used for automatic gain and exposure control that I have not been able to find in documentation or on this forum. When I have enabled auto gain/exposure control for imaging of satellites such as ISS in video mode many pixels are overexposed. Viewing a live histogram in software such as Planetary Imager confirms this. I would prefer to use the built-in auto gain/exposure feature for satellite tracking since it is difficult to predict the exact brightness of passes in advance and the brevity of passes makes manual adjustment impractical.

Some specific questions which apply to both automatic gain and automatic exposure control:

How is the algorithm intended to function?

Does the algorithm allow some pixels to be overexposed, even after allowing enough time for the algorithm to settle on a steady scene?

Are there any adjustments that can be made to prevent overexposure while using automatic gain and/or exposure control?

I am currently using the 178MC.

Understand your needs, however, even if I tell you about our algorithm, it won't solve the problem. I have another idea.

Please set the AutoExpTargetBrightness, it should work.

This value will be the final image brightness achieved by auto exposure and auto gain.
