There are so many things to doubt~
1, Power supply. Usually, USB2.0 only support 500mA current. Maybe it is not enough.
2, USB bandwidth. Even though you use a long exposure, But it's also possible that at some point, there's not enough bandwidth.
3, Lack of memory. I do not know your memory size, if they are not enough at some point, this also will happen.
4, Software bug. Both APT and OS have the the possibility. USB host driver on your PC also have the possibility.
From experience, I tend to think of it as a software bug, USB host driver is the most suspect.
You can try to update your USB Host driver first. If you do not know, you can ask the PC manufacturers for help.
For power, you can use a hub with an external power source.
After these, test it again.
