newbie is need of major help with ASICAP

hi Peeps. My friend bought a Celestron AVX 9.25" telescope with a ASI120MC camera. He is old and needs major help. We have not been able to capture or see any planet or stars at all using the windows 7 or mac software.

My first main question is , is this software realtime, and will it not produce any images until "capturing has been done? also do you remove the right angle viewfinder on the telescope and plug the ASI12MC right into the tube itself, or does it matter? After 3 years we dont know if the camera is broken, but it sees the software just fine, and when we put the camera fish eye on during the day it see a real image. just cant see anything at nighttime with saturn or mars being viewed. Should I just set it to auto for gain and exposure and then see what happens? What is the min computer to purchase for the ASI12MC to properly capture frames.

You should see a live video on the screen when connected to the camera after clicking on the blue arrow next to the connected camera name.

If not, try to adjust the exposure time, gain, usb bandwidth (set it to 80 as a good start).

Test the camera inside, even without a lens to see if there are any change when you put/remove your hand from the front of the camera.

Hi dmf6978, your computer can run window 7 system, it also can run ASICAP and ASI120MC. ASICAP is as what rpineau's description.

You can see image with the camera putting fish eye, it indicates that the camera runs well.

If you want to watch Saturn or Mars, you should find it with your telescope first. Sometimes it will take great patience to find the target.

Once you find the target, you could plug the ASI120MC to the telecscope gently(GENTLY is very important). As you said, you should remove the right angle viewfinder first.

Run ASICAP and turn on the camera. If you could not see nothing except black, please change gain and exposure time larger.
