Hi,
Does anyone have any actual experience using a DC power cable (cigarette lighter plug on one end and 5.5 mm x 2.1 mm center positive plug on the other ) to power the cooler via a 12V battery? I have an ASI071MC Pro and I am looking for specific models of cables to try please. Meade, Celestron, and Ioptron make cables with these plug configurations, but it is hard to find the rest of the details (e.g. the fuse size and the wire gage) without just “buying and trying”. At $30 USD per cable, that could get expensive.
Most nights I don’t pull an AC power extension cord out to my observatory. It’s far away from the AC outlet and so not too convenient. Was really wanting to use my 12V batteries for the camera cooler. I have plenty of battery power available.
I know that the fuse size should be between 3 amps and 5 amps and that thicker wire (and shorter cables) are better to minimize voltage drop.
Has anyone successfully done this with a DC power cable and 12V battery? Which cable did you use?
Are there any cables to avoid?
Huge thanks!
Pat
