ASI385MC-Cool Discontinued?

Hi, I noticed that the ASI385MC-Cool camera is discontinued. What was the reason for this? Was there problems with it? I'm saving up to purchase this as it seems like a good choice for both planetary and small dso's. What would be an adequate replacement camera for my desired useage. I currently have an ASI071MCPro for dso's. Thanks for any reply you can provide.

Yes, the small sensor cooled cameras are discontinued, I recommend the ASI183MC Pro.

Hi Sean, thanks for the reply. The 183 has 20M resolution. All the literature that I've read states that using a resolution of 1-2M is prefered for planetary imaging. How would the ASI183MCPro fit into that scenario? As an DSO imager it does seem to frame some targets better than my 071Pro using Stellariums Oculars with my setup, 8" Edge with either my Hyperstar or the .7x focal reducer. I'm new to the imaging part of this hobby and just trying to get a better handle on all this. Any help on the camera side of this would be greatly appreciated....Ed

Hi Ed

For planetary imaging, I recommend to buy an uncooled camera. ASI224, ASI290, ASI385 is great fot that.

183 has 20M resolution, great for DSO. 20M is the full resolution, you could use ROI to crop the area, it will be able to use 1920*1080 or smaller resolution for planetary imaging.

Thanks for the reply Sean. Looks like I'll be looking into getting the ASI224 and ADC next month. I'll keep DSO's limited to using the ASI 071 MC PRO for now. Maybe later this year I'll be able to afford the ASI 183. As I said before, new to imaging and trying to learn as much as I can about the cameras. Take care..Ed
