re: cooler 12v DC power wire

Is there a minimum recommended AWG wire gauge for a 12 volt battery power connection to the cooler on an ASI294? Say for a 2 meter run?

AWG 20 gauge 3 core wire should be capable of 5 amps, and 22 gauge wire 3 core supposedly is capable of 3 amps, although the capacity is degraded with increasing number of wire strands. Wire length and temperature also factor in.

The reason why I ask is that I have been using AWG 18 gauge wire for battery power, but it is relatively heavy wire, and may be overcapacity for a short length and moderate temperatures (5 degrees Celsius minimum). However, the 5 amp AC power supply that Zwo supplies comes with only a 1 meter run of AWG 16 wire beyond the transformer, which is much more conservative, but perhaps that is what I should be sticking with.

Any thoughts from the electrically enlightened out there?

For the AWG16 wire we used, it is because we consider that the user may not only use it to power the camera, but may also use it to power other devices, like mount. Beside that, Smaller AWG, less wire heating will be less, strength will be higher, etc.

For your case, if you only use it to power the camera, I think you should promise the voltage on the camera port is above 11V at least, and the current should have 3A。If you can fix this 2 factors, it should be fine. Beside, also do not foget the safe. The diameter of the wire is closely related to the heat.
