To my knowledge, the Z series is not yet supported - when will it be possible to use the Z7 oder Z6? Or am I outdated already?

Sorry we currently don't have this plan to support Nikon Z6 or Z7.

I understand that you concentrate on your own brand cameras - clear, ASIAIR is a product of your brand, however, in the future, Canon and Nikon are moving towards mirrorless systems, and many fellow astrophotographers would be happy, if they could use those new systems as well. Maybe you like to reconsider this suggestion in the future...

gnyman I have tested ASI Air Pro with my Z6 last night after the latest firmware update. The camera is now detected (it wasn't before the update), and it can trigger the shutter and change the ISO, but there are some issues:
    1) the picture in raw format (NEF) is not displayed properly - it looks like the bit order is incorrect, maybe an old library in the stack
    2) the image is not saved on the card, even if the the setting is enabled

I could get around issue #1 by selecting JPEG image storage instead of Raw, which is quite useless for astronomy, but I wanted to see if I can get plate solving working to speed up my setup. Right now, I only have the ASI290MM Mini as Guide Camera, and I have to switch it between guide and main camera to do the plate solve.

@support@zwo it really would be awesome to fix the issues with Z6/Z7. I can provide raw images, settings, screen captures of what it looks like in the app, anything! It seems like it's almost there, very close to a working state... I plan to purchase a dedicated deep-sky monochrome camera in future, but right now, I only have the Z6 and the ASI290, and it's a nice setup for color imaging. Automating all that would be a real time saver 🙂

    Thanks!

This is how images from the Z6 load in ASI Air app when image output is set to RAW:

I remember the images looked like this in PixInsight before I updated to latest version. I know that older Photoshop/Lightroom versions also could not load those NEF files. I gather that Nikon made some changes, and that libraw needs to be updated - Z6 raws are supported from 0.20 onwards...

I understand that a lot of astrophotographer use Sony for the sensor. Now Sony SDK may be weird or not easy to work with for the ASIAir.OS.
But Nikon Z series and Fuji XT... are two other product really performing good in astrophotography.

You already support some Nikon, keeping the latest Nikon functional, and Fuji (X-Trans sensor), would ensure people do not consider other alternative where Indi works, or even other system so they keep access to their DSLR if they want.
Most have DSLR and Astro CCD.
    Personnaly, I have Nikon D7000, Fuji XT3, ASI533MC-P and 462MC

And I would love to be able sometimes to use the wide sensor of my XT3, even knowing I mostly use the 533MC-P 90% of the time.

Please, seriously consider Nikon Z and Fuji XT's...

@support@zwo following the latest firmware update (FW 6.92), my Nikon Z6 is no longer detected... Fortunately, I have made a backup of the previous firmware (6.76) so that I can at least use the JPEG work-around for plate-solving, but it's sad that such marketing decisions are made without considering the user base...

I noticed the same thing. I didn't know if it was a problem with my camera. It worked, making amazing images, focused, PA and plate solved. Was making great images. Updated for the fixes, and camera no longer identified. I want to use the 24mpx sensor. Put my D850 on it, and it works fine again.

Is there a timeline for the connectivity to the Z7 ? If there is one Nikon camera (well two, the Z6 also) to connect too, then it is that one. Is already more than two years sold by Nikon. And that series has already several other camera's in it. Really worthwhile the effort.

So, please, please, please, hurry, hurry, hurry.

sirius_eclipse would you happen to have a copy of the firmware that worked for your Z? I just ordered an ASIAIR pro, it shipped and now I find out that it wont work with either of my cameras, Z7 or Z6ii. I really only use my Z7 for this stuff so I’d like to try the older firmware, figure mine will come updated...maybe.

Ona4day Sorry for late reply; notifications were off for this thread... I do have a backup of the old firmware made with dd in Linux. I can delete the license files and send it, but I need an address or a way to send the link.

Hello! I also would like to request support for the Nikon Z6! I bought the ASIAIR Pro with great anticipation - it has been awesome tracking with the 120MM Mini, I just can’t wait to finally be able to use it’s other features with my Nikon.

Perhaps one day I’ll upgrade to one of your dedicated astro cameras. But in the meantime I want to make sure I enjoy working with the gear I have.

Take care and thanks for the regular firmware updates. It’s nice to know you will keep supporting us.

Hi I have a nikon z6 and two asiairs I have waited atleast 5 months for support for my camera when will this be added I have a 2600mm but am having to use a mini pc at mo with my z6 can you advise when your next firmware will be released

Hello ZWO ! I just bought a Z6 II to use it with my astrophotography setup and of course my Asiair ! used it for a little more than 1 year with a d500 and now I realize that my new camera is not supported by the Asiair pro !

Come on guys, we all loves your products (I myself invested in one of your dedicated camera ,focuser, mini guide cam, scope and Asiair...) but could you consider make the Asiair pro compatible with Nikon Z cameras in the same spirit you did for the first Asiair ?

Some guys here are selling their little red boxes because of this and it’s really sad to see that you don’t even react !

You could get even more fans ( customers! ) if you could change your mind about this !

        Thank you !

        Hi guys,
We have a user who is willing to help to test Z6, stay tuned!
