Hello,
I have a William Optics refractor on a IOptron GEM45 mount and am using an Orion 60mm guidescope with a ASI 120 camera (mounted in rings on my OTA). My first time out it worked fine, but the last few times it will start tracking OK and then get worse and worse. I have been turning off guiding as my 5 minute exposure using just my mount were much better than my guided exposures. My mount does a great job so I do not need other than for dithering. I use the PA function in the ASIAir app and get good PA before I start.
I have played with the Dec and RA aggressiveness and selected north and auto. I tried different gain settings on my guide camera and different exposures. I have checked my FL of my guidescope, which is set at 240. I have lowered the calibration settings from 2000 to 500. Guide rate is x 0.5 which matches my mount setting.
I have checked alignment between my OTA and my guidescope a few times, do the guidescope and OTA have to be perfectly aligned and oriented or is close good enough?
What am I missing or what else should I try? Thanks in advance for your help. Jim...
