The video modes seem to be limited to fixed frame sizes unrelated to the camera sensor (e.g. 1080p, 480p, etc).

Are these scaled or cropped from the sensor? That is, for example, if I'm shooting with a 462MC or 290MM which are both natively 1936x1096, in 1080p mode is it recording a 1920x1080 ROI or is it scaling 1936x1096 to 1920x1080?

Scaling would be a very, very bad answer. It would wreck the resolution. I hope it's cropping a ROI at the native resolution of the sensor.

Is there any hope of recording the raw 8- or 16-bit sensor data in SER format?

Hi,
#1 It's the Center ROI not Scaling.
#2 About the RAW16 and SER, we will talk about them.

Hi.
Nice to read that RAW16 mode and SER format will be added.
This mode is available in ASICAP (and SharpCap and ...), but not in ASIAirPro...
Please add ! (and thanks in advance)

@asiair@zwo#45182 Is it possible to set a custom ROI? I would like to use the full 3008 x 3008 resolution of the ASI533MC with the Video mode in the ASIAIR PRO.

I think the idea behind video mode is to use for planetary viewing where you need a small field of view or ROI. Usually you would use Preview or Live modes for larger FOVs. What would you be viewing at such a large FOV that you would want to use Video mode for it?

johnpd videos of the moon and sun in order to stack the frames. The full res of my camera would accommodate the full disk of the moon or sun with my scope with room to spare, but with the cropped ROI video mode they barely fit with only a few pixels to spare so they move out of frame right away even when guiding is decent.

When I thought about it, I guessed that might be the case. I had issues with my current setup where I had to use a focal reducer to get the full lunar/solar disc. I don't have an ASIAir yet. I played with a friends for a bit and saw it has great possibilities. I am very interested in possibly getting one. Unfortunately I have QHY cameras so I would have to spend a bundle for all the equipment. So yes allowing full resolution in case of lunar/solar imaging would be useful. The other option (if it were available) would be to have the capability to create videos in Live mode. Unfortunately the manual is rather limited. I don't think it has all the latest updates they recently added.

Well, I ended up using Fire Capture for the recent ISS Transit since the ASI AIR Pro didn't allow a custom ROI, as @WalterT mentioned, the moon gets cropped with the preset ROI of up till 1080p.

@asiair@zwo If I could have set a custom ROI which took the full resolution of the sensor, that would have been great.

I 2nd that. It would also be useful when getting objects in frame. The limited preset ROI of 1080p really limits the FOV. It is much easier to compose/frame objects when you are in video mode and can see things move fairly quickly as you adjust your scope. Yes, you can use preview, but I find it too slow and I spend too much time composing/framing the target. I own an ASI183 and I believe it can do 17fps at full resolution; it would really be nice to take full advantage of that when using my Aire Pro.

Any updates on this thread? It would still be a good enhancement.

Yes, video mode really is limiting as it is now. It may be OK for planetary, but for solar imaging doing full-frame video is the normal method of observing. Please consider adding this!

I am in the same boat...I just received a ASI533MM to do solar work and get a full disk image off my Lunt 80mm scope...I can see a full image in focus in preview mode but I can't record in the native camera mode of 3008x3008. Ditto the above! Please consider adding this! Thx!!!!
