What’s the answer to the problem ZWO Tech? “Noted” (November 8 by AISAIR@ZWO) doesn’t really let your customers know what’s being done to address the problem, and time frame for fixing it. I bought the AAP specifically because ZWO shows in the mounts supported that Az-Gti is compatible. Not that one needs to buy wedges, EQ shafts and weights, or SynScan hand controllers. Sky Watcher does not support the Az-Gti with EQ equipment. I drank the ZWO koolaide buying the aap and AIS585mc, but maybe I should rethink going further with any other components from ZWO.

I have test AZ GTI last week，I use usb cable connect AAP and mount，choose EQmode prototol，it works well。

Walf@ZWO Was your AZ-GTI on a equatorial wedge in EQ mode? This post is about making the AZ-GTI and ASIAir work in alt-az mode.

I'm having similar issues with my ASIAIR Pro and AZ-GTI, and waiting for something to be fixed. It's so close to working well! I can get everything to work except that the ASIAIR Pro makes the scope go down when it should go up. ALT movement is the opposite of what it should be. Surely it's a simple fix? I think I'll just sell this ZWO gear and go with another solution.

It has to be an easy code fix - not sure why ZWO tech support cannot provide a definitive answer (something along the lines of):

This is an easy fix and it is scheduled for a future release.
This is a difficult fix and it's pending.

No response is odd.....

I am also another AAP user, perfectly happy with my AVX setup with AAP. However recently I got AZ GTe for travel purpose and I bought that without reading this thread. So my travel EAA plan with AZ GTe and AAP seems like a bad investment, unless ZWO comes up with a release shortly with this capability ie ALT AZ mount control for AZ GTi/e with full feature of plate solve, sync/center and tracking, like it does for my AVX.

AZ-GTI or AZ-GTIx coupled with the ASIAIR are a perfect companion for EAA or visual use.
So, the direct support (without the physical Synscan hand controller) of the ASIAIR with AZ-GTI in AZ mode is highly desired!

So I am currently waiting on an asi385 camera and Asiair mini bought to use with an Azgti mount for EAA. I didnt realize at the time of buying there were issues running the gti in Alt/Az. I sure do hope they can fix this. Have i made a mistake buying this setup??

MBC ASIAir not working with AZ-GTI in alt-az mode has been a known problem for years. Can you return the ASIAir mini? There are AZ-GTI owners who avoid buying the ASIAir because it can't work in alt-az mode.

Yes, unless or until ZWO decides to make the Az-GTI compatible in alt/az.

jd8080 Yes returning it is an option. I have found some videos on youtube showing the mount working well setup for EQ. I may add the wedge and counterweight and give that a try.

MBC Yup, AZ-GTI works with ASIAir in eq mode with a wedge and counterweight. Lots of people that combination for a portable setup.

@ASIAIR@ZWO please can you provide an update on whether this is going to be looked at and any kind of time estimate?
I, like others, love the ASIAIR for its simplicity and for just working out of the box, having come from StellarMate it was a massive improvement and lower learning curve. However like others, when I saw that the ASIAIR was compatible with the az gti i assumed it would be work for use as an AZ mount, especially as I understood that using the gti in Eq was experimental. Took me longer than it should to figure out why the mount was acting so weirdly with mount in AZ mode and the ASIAIR in eq mode.

For me the gti is a really cool portable mount for EAA - I want to travel light as possible so don’t want a wedge and counter weights etc. I am sure there are others who want az for simplicity, lightness, a combination of both or just because it’s cheaper.

From my experience my gti has amazing tracking but poor goto functionality so matching with the plate solving of the ASIAIR would make this a brilliant setup.

Hello, I have the same problem and I would be happy if the functionality of the Asiair is expanded so that I can use the AZ GTIx with the Asiair, in ALT-AZ mode.

ZWO is trying to tell us something. Many months and numerous requests to make the ASIAIR devices work with the AZ-GTi in alt/az mode and still no response? They will not even respond to to the questions about whether they are working on this!!? They obviously have made the decision to not support this mount.

OK, Now it is even more clear. ZWO has just announced a new smart telescope, Seestar S50. This explains ZWOs refusal to make the Az-GTi mount in alt/az mode compatible with their ASIAIR line of devices. Many current users of this mount have been asking for this for a long time, with no response to inquiry from ZWO. Apparently they see a lightweight alt/az setup as a potential competitor to this new product, even though they could sell more ASIAIRs in the process.

I just found an analogous discussion about the Az-GTi: https://bbs.astronom...n-altaz-mode/42. You can literally find many of the analogous discussions and problems with AZ-GTi apply to Virtuoso and ASIAIR.

one person posits that the reason ZWO won’t move forward on supporting AltAz scopes is that
they were cognizant of their upcoming release of ZWO SeeStar ™ and likely view these other scopes as competitors.

since the drivers for AZ-GTi can be converted to the EQ mode by software and firmware updates, (I’ve done this and ASIAIR works perfectly with the SW AZ/GTi in EQ mode!!)
I’m curious if a similar tactic would work with Virtuoso GTi?
Then I’d put the Virtuoso GTi on a wedge!!

Hi I made a video to show you how I connect ASIAIR, SW AZGTI and ASI 462MC. I did with 2 telescopes, Mak127 and SW 400/80 achromatic. I could do several things. I've already, with another setup, been successful doing some astrophotography. Here what I can see is:

the ASIAIR can move the telescope to approximative the place required by the goto, it fails in short movements and adjustment and it fails a lot in stacking. It seems need some additional features for been a successful setup for EAA.
