ZWO is trying to tell us something. Many months and numerous requests to make the ASIAIR devices work with the AZ-GTi in alt/az mode and still no response? They will not even respond to to the questions about whether they are working on this!!? They obviously have made the decision to not support this mount.

OK, Now it is even more clear. ZWO has just announced a new smart telescope, Seestar S50. This explains ZWOs refusal to make the Az-GTi mount in alt/az mode compatible with their ASIAIR line of devices. Many current users of this mount have been asking for this for a long time, with no response to inquiry from ZWO. Apparently they see a lightweight alt/az setup as a potential competitor to this new product, even though they could sell more ASIAIRs in the process.

So, is this a new driver or change in the app that has been tested and confirmed to work in alt/az mode? Can anybody who has the ASIair (I don't have one) confirm that this works?

I just found an analogous discussion about the Az-GTi: https://bbs.astronom...n-altaz-mode/42. You can literally find many of the analogous discussions and problems with AZ-GTi apply to Virtuoso and ASIAIR.

one person posits that the reason ZWO won’t move forward on supporting AltAz scopes is that
they were cognizant of their upcoming release of ZWO SeeStar ™ and likely view these other scopes as competitors.

since the drivers for AZ-GTi can be converted to the EQ mode by software and firmware updates, (I’ve done this and ASIAIR works perfectly with the SW AZ/GTi in EQ mode!!)
I’m curious if a similar tactic would work with Virtuoso GTi?
Then I’d put the Virtuoso GTi on a wedge!!

Hi I made a video to show you how I connect ASIAIR, SW AZGTI and ASI 462MC. I did with 2 telescopes, Mak127 and SW 400/80 achromatic. I could do several things. I've already, with another setup, been successful doing some astrophotography. Here what I can see is:

the ASIAIR can move the telescope to approximative the place required by the goto, it fails in short movements and adjustment and it fails a lot in stacking. It seems need some additional features for been a successful setup for EAA.

I don’t have the AZ-GTi but I do have the new Virtuoso GTi which is also Alt/Az and had similar issues with mount options, slew movements in the wrong direction, and tracking disabled. I have had decent success using the SynScan Pro app on iPhone/iPad as primary controller for alignment and tracking. I put ASIAIR into station mode by connecting it to the SynScan Wi-Fi not the normal ASIAIR Wi-Fi using the Virtuoso mount option selected. IP is 192.168.4.1 with port 11880 and UDP protocol selected. Keep both apps running simultaneously. Even though ASIAIR has tracking disabled, SynScan Pro seems to control the tracking. I am able to use ASIAIR slew controls however and GoTo works from either app. You may need to sync on object first in ASIAIR app to get the planetarium bit pointed to same object as SynScan Pro app. You may need to use option Align with Sync and keep it open for ASIAIR to sync properly. Hope this info helps others having troubles. Please respond if this also works for AZ-GTi.

I find that it is often necessary to run SynScan as Administrator in order for other apps to pass data and control through SynScan!

I am experiencing the same issues. I am using the skywatcher star discovery mount which is alt/az only (there is no option to add a wedge to convert to eq). I have recently bought an ASIair mini. I can connect to the mount using the Skywatcher AZ-GTi/Synscan Wifi option and like others have said the azimuth axis is reversed (so pressing left goes right and pressing right goes left). If I take a preview shot and then press plate solve button it solves perfectly and then I can sync to mount so the ASIair knows exactly where it is pointing, if I then go into the skyatlas and do a goto the mount moves completely the wrong way and often would crash into tripod if I didn't stop it.

I have also noticed that when a goto crosses the meridian it attempts to do a meridian flip which again would crash the scope.

It seems like all zwo has to do to fix these problems are to introduce an option to ignore meridian flip and allow the axis to be flipped.

There is a problem with the driver.

There are two firmwares for AZGTI, but only the Virtuoso GTi driver is available for ASI Air with latitude and longitude coordinates.

However, tracking does not work with this driver.

I also use INDI.

ASIAir uses INDI only for the mount driver.

・Equatorial mount firmware, equatorial mount coordinate driver (AZ-GTI WIFI driver) → Supported

・Equatorial mount firmware, driver for latitude and latitude coordinates → Currently unavailable

・Lateral and latitude firmware (standard firmware), driver for latitude and latitude coordinates (Virtuoso GTi) → There is a bug where tracking does not function.

・Hydrometics firmware (standard firmware), equatorial mount coordinate driver (VirtuosoGTiWedge) → There is a bug where the initial coordinates are incorrect and tracking does not function.

Currently, it only works properly when using AZGTI with wedge-equipped equatorial mount firmware converted to AZGTI-WIFI driver.

Everything works with the underlying INDI driver, so I would like it to be supported.

This takes advantage of a bug that allows you to connect with two different drivers, but I hope it to work properly on the driver side.

Hi, yes, please. Supporting the AZ-GTi and AZ-GTiX mounts in Alt/Az Mode could be amazing. I'm sure we are so many users waiting for this feature ... please 😉
