I would also like to see an ROI option on the ASIAIR. I am thinking about getting an ASI174MM camera for doing some solar imaging but I would have to do a lot of cropping to get a decent full solar image. The camera supports ROI but the ASIAIR does not.

This would be great for galaxies or planetary nebula. Just like there is a set of options for bin1, bin2, bin4, we could have crop1 (whole image, crop2, crop4). I would definitely use this with my ASI294MM Pro.

An alternative would be to enable longer exposure times for video mode, since I've noticed that changing between resolutions does change how much of the sensor is used. Right now 1s is the longest.

Three years after and still no ROI for dso. I too have asi294mm and for very small galaxies, planetary nebulas and globular clusters this is really a must.
How is it possible that other companies with similar solutions on the market implemented this feature long ago, while ZWO keeps focusing on irrelevant things and constantly adds new bugs to the product?
ROI has been available in Asiair for planetary imaging for a long time — so why not in DSO as well?
I’m not a programmer, but I really don’t believe this would be so difficult to implement. It is one of fundamental features.

Because you can bin, so you don't need it. Binning is actually better as it combines signal from neighbouring pixels to increase the pixel response when binned. But note, CMOS cameras use software binning (only a few can hardware bin, ZWOs definitely cannot, true binning for AP use is from the times of CCD sensors where binning created only one instance of read noise, CMOS binning combines four instances of read noise so it's not the same as when CCD hardware binning which the electronic design allows) so it's no different to doing it post capture (downsample).

Thank you for reply, but this is not the same thing. With binning you effectively reduce resolution and change pixel size and maintain the same field of view. I would like to reduce fow, that is to crop image inside asiair and retain pixel size. That way I would be getting small file size and speed up processing time. That includes flat and dark frames as well.

Use a smaller sensor to begin with.

Honestly if your images don't display excessive undersampling or oversampling, you don't really need to get so in depth with this, just change the image in post processing.

Use an external usb stick with the asiair if your 294 creates large files or as suggested use a smaller sensor.

Yes, I am already using usb stick and crop in postproccesing. It would just be very efficient to reduce fow when taking images. So many positive effects.
