How to connect the new Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro to ASIAIR?

Instruction

Some ASIAIR Pro user could not Sucessfully connect their ASIAIR Pro to the EQ6-R Pro. After communication with Skywatcher engineers, we build an new OS that could compatible with EQ6-R. Here is the download link of the special OS:

NOTE：The only important thing is to restore the ASIAIR with an OS that is modified to adapt to the new batch of Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro mounts. There is a USB port on the body of the new EQ6-R Pro and its production date is later than 2021.01.01.

1 Preparation

A new MicroSD card and a Card Reader.
Download the ASIAIR system zipped image file from the Google Driver, for ASIAIR PRO, and unzip it to an image file. Here is the download link of the special OS:

Software recommended:

2 Restore the ASIAIR OS

Windows

Insert the new MicroSD card into the card reader, then plug the card reader into the computer USB interface.
Run the Win32 Disk lmager, click on its interface to select the image file that just unzipped.
Under the Device label of the Win32 Disk lmager software interface, select the MicroSD card drive latter.
Click Write to start. It would take 30 to 40 minutes.
After restoring, plug back the MircoSD card in ASIAIR device and power up, connect to its WiFi on the app.

Mac
It is recommended to use Apple Pi-Baker for ASIAIR system backup and restore. The operating guide is included on this download page and is easy to complete.

Linux
Backup and restore under Linux system, you can use the "dd" command. You can also use the GUI tool Etcher when restoring.

3 Authorization

Authorize Online (Recommended, Internet access is required)

Click Authorize Online and AISIAIR will automatically complete the authorization. This method requires that the App has Internet access.
After authorized, the License QR Code will be automatically saved in album for standby use.

A word of warning - although the original microSD card is 32gb I needed a 64gb card to fit this EQR6-Pro OS on to. I work on a Mac so downloaded The Unarchiver from the App Store to extract the .img file from the .rar downloaded from the above link. Then Apple Pie Baker to transfer the .img file to the 64gb microSD card. When connecting the EQ6R-pro to the ASIAIR Pro select EQMOD and set the baud rate to 115200. All now works fine 🙂.

I flashed the new OS image onto a new mSD card (64GB).
When booting up the system, I was prompted to update the firmware as well (the OS came with 6.xx). I guess this is fine? The FW updates never touched the underlying drivers, so this new OS should be fine for any coming firmware update, correct?

This is perfectly fine, since the download consists of the firmware for ASIAIR v1.5.

The new ASIAIR app should be able to update the microSD card just fine.

I am a Windows 10 user. I followed the instructions and downloaded Win32driveimage. Unfortunately it doesn't work on Win 10. I tried on a different PC, same result. Do you know if there is another software I can use (Rufus maybe?) to insalll the Iso image on my micro SD card? What's the required configuration in terms of partition and system file?

So apparently Win32DiskImager can't start on Windows 10 because of a conflict with a virtual drive (like Google drive or Pcloud). I will try again unmounting pcloud before opening Win32DiskImager.
I can now confirm it all works when unmounting the virtual drive before launching Win32DiskImager. I now have a new OS that recongnises the Eq6-R Pro. Thanks!

Just out of curiosity: Would ZWO be able to update these drivers with a FW update rolled out via the ASIAIR app?

Hello,
The same fix solved the issue with my brand new Celestron AVX. Where the Serial port wasn't detected.
Hoping it will help someone else since I pass a week searching about it.

It makes sense to pin this post at the top of your bulletin board, as the failures are ramifying pretty rapidly. May I ask whether ZWO could make available pre-loaded and ASIAir Pro-compliant SD cards that will work with the CGX (and other similarly situated) mounts? I am willing to pay for this service, as I have indicated in e-mails to you, but you might even consider this as a service to your loyal customer base, who are generally favorably impressed with the quality of your product line.

I have been working with the ASI AIR Pro and my EQ6R-Pro mount for 2 months now. I have tried every possible setting including buying an EQMOD cable and eliminating the hand controller. Sometimes it seems to be working fine and out of the blue it loses its RA and Dec information and gets lost in the sky. Sometimes when I attempt to plate solve it tells me it cant plate solve with the scope within 5 degrees of the NCP but I'm no where near the NCP!

Bottom line - I'm very disappointed in this device. It seems to have more bugs than a crack whore house and it obviously not ready for prime time. I have better things to do then be a beta tester for ZWO.
