EAF attachment to William Optics GT81 IV

Is anyone using the EAF on a WO GT81 IV? I'm unsure which holes to use for attaching the mounting bracket. Thanks - Jim

Thank you Kring. It appears that you have repurposed the focuser lock screw location and the threaded hole on the focuser that is nearest the EAF. Is that correct? My worry is that the grub screws filling the focuser holes do something besides functioning as a dust cap.

I don’t think I removed the grub, it was low enough that it worked just fine with a short ZWO EAF screw. Put it this way, I’d be surprised if I did that. If I get some time to check it more I’ll post details. My GT81 was not very well setup when it arrived, 2 grub screws had fallen out, one was tight and a few others I don’t think we actually making any kind of contact.

I went ahead and removed the grub and saw that it is way to short to have done anything but plug the hole. It was flush with the surface on mine. There was plenty of room to have just screwed it further in and I probably should do that anyway so I won't lose it in the event I remove the EAF. My focuser had to be returned to the seller for replacement, there was internal damage and the focus knobs wobbled when turned. Thanks once again for your help, now I just need some clear skies.

Very often, there is another "real" grub screw that is doing the actual work. The outer grub screw is just to keep dirt and curious users from touching the more critical tension screws.

The focuser lock can always be removed, and should remain unlocked in any case. An EAF has plenty of holding force to prevent movements unless you have so much instrumentation on your draw tube that you have exceeded the specs of the EAF.
