JT50 I went ahead and removed the grub and saw that it is way to short to have done anything but plug the hole. It was flush with the surface on mine.
Very often, there is another "real" grub screw that is doing the actual work. The outer grub screw is just to keep dirt and curious users from touching the more critical tension screws.
The focuser lock can always be removed, and should remain unlocked in any case. An EAF has plenty of holding force to prevent movements unless you have so much instrumentation on your draw tube that you have exceeded the specs of the EAF.
