ASIFitsView "Save as" saves .PNG as stretched but .TIF as unstretched

I was playing with ASIFitsView and decided to save a .FITS file as a .TIF. The resulting file is a 16-bit .TIF, however it is unstretched. If I save it as a .PNG, it is an 8-bit .PNG but is stretched as displayed in ASIFitsView. Is this by design?

johnpd It's not a bug, it's designed that way. TIF is similar to FIT and it saves original data.

Have you selected "RAW Data" as below?

The image was captured using ASIAIR not the ASIStudio's ASICAP. I viewed them in ASIFITSView and did saves as .PNG and .TIF. I assume you are not saving stretch and color info when saving as a .TIF so processing can be done with an external program.

Mono camera or RAW16, only support "RAW Data", saved as .Fit or .TIF, you need the Stack software to transfer it to color in the post-processing.

Hi, when I save a stacked image (.fit format) to .TIF image for post processing it is not streched!!

That is what I came to realize as it allows further processing in other programs.

Affinity Photo will read a FITS file, and after you have finished adjusting the curves, lets you save what you see on the monitor to a TIFF file.

AstroPixelProcessor will let you export either stretched or unstretched images.

You can use Affinity Photo ($55) to stretch and process either the .FITS file or the .TIF file. You can also use RawTherapee (free) to stretch the .TIF file and save it.
