Hello Lorix
i own the Celestron EdgeHD 8“ and attached an EAF to it. i can get it to focus on a regular base when controlled by an ASIAir Pro. If i remember correctly i did the following to make it work:
- roughly focus the scope using the manual focus knob (the one that is installed from Celestron). Use a tree or building a few miles away and try to get it into focus.
- detach the manual focuser and attach the EAF instead and try not to defocus too far
- set the EAF’s current position to 30000 and try to focus a bright star
Please note, the AAP only allows to set the EAF‘s position in a range from 0 to 60000, but you can always modify the current position without changing the EAF‘s physical position. That means if you reached 60000, you can just set the current position to 30000, so you get another 30000 steps until you reach the maximum position. There you could do the same over and over again. The EAF does not have a physical end where it stops rotating, it’s just the numbers in the software. At some point, you should be able to focus.
I managed to focus at f/10 and with a 0.7 reducer at f/7. Take care that you attach the EAF correctly to the scope. In case of the EdgeHD, it is necessary to keep the original orange circular plate between EAF and scope. Take a look at one of AstroBlender‘s videos on YouTube, where he goes through all the necessary steps.
Hth. good luck.
