smilingj No, sadly that is not the case. My problem remains even if no USB stick is plugged in.
Mount the microSD card on your computer, and see the files are in the BOOT volume. Unlike the Linux partitions, the BOOT volume should be visible on macos and Windows.
Look inside the BOOT volume, and there could be an Image folder. If so, FITS and other files could be found there, or inside the sub-folders that are inside the Image folder (Autorun Live, log, ... etc) in the Image folder. (The location of the image files have moved at least twice since ASIAIR v1.2.)
If so, dismount the microSD card, and make a backup (on macos, use Apple Pi Baker -- and be sure to save as IMG, and not as compressed archive), just in case any file deletion causes problems. Restore the backup to a second microSD card, and make sure the copy boots up ASIAIR before attempting any file deletions.
Mount one of the microSD cards on your computer, and delete any files inside the Image folder, and empty the Trash can.
This works on macos. YMMV if you are using some other OS.
