In order to provide the best user experience, we will adjust the minimun system requirements for running ASIAIR app in stages.

ASIAIR is able to run on iOS and Android device.

First Stage
From v2.0 and later new versions before 1st October, 2022, the minimun system requirements below is needed for running ASIAIR.

Second Stage
From 1st October, 2022, the minimun system requirements below is needed for running ASIAIR.

astrosatch What will happen on 1st october 2022?

Reading carefully what they posted above, it appears that from ASIAIR 2.0 on, earlier versions of iOS than iOS 11, and iPhones earlier than iPhone 6 will no longer be supported by ASIAIR.

On the Android side, only Andriod 7 or newer will be supported, as long as they also have more than 4 GB of RAM.

On Oct 1 2022, ASIAIR will switch to "Stage 2," i.e., Android 7, iOS 11 and iPhone 6 will also be dropped.

Keep in mind that iPads that can run iOS 11 are also capable of running iOS 12; the ancient iPads can be upgraded. The iPhone 6S has been around since 2015 (the iPhone 6 came out in 2014); so only Apple phones from before 2015 are unsupported.

It appears that ZWO has decided to set a more reasonable base-memory limit for Androids. The 2GB (the recommendation that was set by Google in 2020) and lower memory sized Android devices are practically unusable with real apps. iOS has always been better with memory management, and has no constraints (albeit, one of my large iPad Pros does come with 16 GB of RAM).

Comment: the iOS TestFlights are still on the v1.9 track. But it appears that Android betas have already switched to the v2.0 track. It appears that ASIAIR is already prepared to stop supporting Android devices with less tha 4 GB of RAM in the next full release.

I'm confused by the minimum requirements for RAM. I have a 2 year old Samsung Galaxy Tab A with 64 GB "memory". But, when I drill down into the settings on the tablet, it says 64 GB of "storage" and 3 GB of "memory". So, which number applies for the minimum requirements for ASIAIR?

Most tablets I see advertised (on Amazon, for example) give their total amount of storage in the specs, and don't even list a separate value for RAM. For instance: "Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 Android Tablet, 10.5” LCD Screen, 64GB Storage, Long-Lasting Battery, Kids Content, Smart Switch, Expandable Memory, Dark Gray". I see nothing in the specs for this tablet for RAM.

Which value, storage or RAM, applies to the minimum requirements for ASIAIR? I see very, very few tablets (on Amazon anyway) that meet a 4 GB requirement for "RAM".

kwigell57 The requirement is for RAM, mainly in order to display additional graphics like SkyAtlas. So NOT the storage capacity (what you call "memory"). Your Galaxy Tab A with 3GB RAM does not meet the minimum requirements for ASIAIR. My old iPad Air with 1GB could not display SkyAtlas, but worked fine otherwise. I upgraded to the new iPad Air M1 with 8GB - that should be OK for a while!

In2Driving Thanks! I guess I will be upgrading to a new tablet soon. It's very strange that Amazon doesn't list the specs for RAM for most of their tablets. You have to read the reviews to find out how much RAM they have.

I have galaxy tab A with only 2GB of RAM. It works ok. Sky atlas too.
