ASIAIR Plus and Pro keeps switching back to 5GHz WiFi

Folks, I'm generally a very happy ASIAIR user. I own meanwhile three of them: two Plus and one Pro. All of them keep switching back to 5GHz WiFi even though I preset it to 2.4. I notice it instantly since all of them are hooked to my home WiFi in station mode when in use and they drop off when they switch back to 5GHz. It is almost 100% reproducible and happens around once per hour. It happens mostly when used in my backyard, and does not happen so often when I use AIRAIRs in my remote spot where the only other WiFi is the hotspot from my car and other ASIAIR from 1-2 of my friends. Maybe it is connected somehow to the fact that there are at least 4-5 other WiFi networks around my backyard. I think I submitted 5-10 (cannot recall exactly) feedback messages in the last 5-8 months from all of those ASIAIRs from different software versions. Did anyone look into this issue? I did not get any reply so far.

Is Band Steering turned on in your router?

Raspbian (and therefore ASIAIR) responds to band steering, if your WiFi router is sending band steering requests. Check your WiFi router's documentation for the term "band steering." When enabled, the router will try to band steer when it finds 2.4 GHz too congested.

For most people, band steering to 5 GHz is preferred, but if you need to go through house walls, you might prefer the slower but more congested 2.4 GHz band (not just congested with WiFi devices, but also some microwave ovens and cordless telephones).

Hey Chan! Thanks for this suggestion! I did not know about this aspect before and will watch this. There is no specific option for band steering in my router. The only I can do it to turn off 5 Ghz entirely. I will watch this mode closely. I used use an small router as an externder connected to the LAN plug. I now see one more reason to start using it again ;-)

Hello, vladi. ASIAIR doesn't support the STA-5Ghz. As chen said, when you used the router offers 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, it will auto switch to 5Ghz if the 2.4 Ghz is too congested. Clear skies!
