I got in touch with ZWO tech support in the USA. To their credit, they responded rather quickly - I'm not used to such enthusiastic support service!!
Here is what they say, verbatum:
"No the offset won't affect PA.
The offset is used to avoid the direct homing sensor position -
There was some talk to fine tuning it out but its merely asthetic and won't mess with operations inc PA
at some point there will be a fine tune but its only for visual purposes"
I'm not sure what the "direct homing sensor position" is/means and why it is an issue - every other GEM I have ever used had no problem homing/parking in the CWD & Dec = 90-deg position. The tech support person, in a later email, indicated that this issue will be addressed in V.2 of the ASiair firmware. However, it is my experience that such statements need to be taken with care, as much can happen between plans now, and actual delivery.
I hope this has been a curious/interesting diversion for you viewers.
Clear skies, Paul.
