jsg I don't see any way to adjust either the LST or the daylight savings time in the am5 app. Am I missing something?
I have no idea how it is done with your mount (I own two RST-135, and watching the Pegasus Nyx-101 closely; so I am definitely not in the market for a ZWO mount).
If DST setting is not available, perhaps ZWO has finally fixed the DST problem. for their devices.
It is a trivial proces: get UTC from the OS, then given UTC, compute Local Sidereal Time from the Local Longitude (also from the OS) The equations are taught in Astronomy 101.
From the LST, we simply use
RA = LST - HA
where RA is the quatorial coordinates of the sky and Hour Angle is the mechanical hour angle of the mount (HA for mount that is pointed at the Meridian is 0). Astronomers had been using this equation since time immemorial, I don't know why the simple solution has eluded ZWO.
Just set up your mount. Look at the Local Sidereal Time (LST) in its hand controller. If it is the same (within a second or two of the true LST), you don't need to worrry about DST, ever.
Many free apps to get LST at the Apple App Store, and if you have SkySafari, you can get LST from it too -- and finally, you should be able to get LST at the Naval Observatory's web site, among other sites.
I have been at astronomy observatories, where the LST clock is more prominently displayed in the control room than the UTC clock :-). And nobody uses local time, DST or not.
