When you increased the exposure duration to over 1 second, did the image also saturate at every pixel ("all white")?
There is a bug in all of ZWO's cameras (also, since time immemorial) where the camera would fail when all pixels are saturated. It could be because the variance over the image is zero -- not a problem with "all black" images, since camera noise ensures that not all pixels are extinguished.
If you want to test exposure times with ZWO's cameras in the daytime, use a neutral density (ND) filter to keep exposure value (EV) low. The other way to keep exposure values low is to make a cardboard aperture mask so that the OTA becomes f/22 or even greater (i.e., all the way to a pinhole).
