ZWO, I am a dedicated customer having purchased a multitude of cameras and asiairs and recommending your product to many others.
With the latest asiair app update 2.0 10.46 you have ruined my astrophotography.
Since the update was installed and updated the firmware on my pro (gen2) and newly bought mini there has been nothing but problems over the course of 8 recent sessions, and many lost hours of imaging time as a result.
My rigs have not changed, I have been imaging fine for 18 months without an issue with any of my airs (less the mini bought recently), only when the latest update was done all my rigs and airs being used have had problems.
This is unacceptable, you have clearly not tested this update properly and have rushed it to market, I believe to coincide with your new product launches but in the process ruined the tried and tested experiences people have had with earlier products, my mini is also affected so this makes the situation more dire.
A summary of issues:
Random goto directions with mounts, the home position of my mounts are correct, first slew is usually okay, the second centering adjustment sends the scope in a completely random direction. Subsequent alignment of mount has then changed even though it was correct to start off with.
App becomes totally unresponsive, even after a force close and restart of the app. My phone is fairly recent running the latest version of Android.
As I use multiple airs I used to be able to control them all with one phone by manually swapping the WiFi connection between them. With the update the UI doesn't update accordingly to which rig I'm connected to so I can inadvertently stop, delete or change things on the wrong air. This used to work without issue before.
Polar alignment takes much longer now, it used to be very quick, 2-3 minutes and less than 50 arc seconds complete. Now it's around 10 minutes and very difficult to get below 1 arc minute as the reticule also moves to and fro too much with the smallest adjustment.
When PA recently I was using a narrowband filter taking 10s solve exposures so more stars will be seen. The PA was reporting 300+ stars were seen when clearly there were only around 20-30, and the routine failed to plate solve, so I couldn't polar align. My scope focal length was set correct.
Calibration normally done in 1-2 steps in each direction, then a warning comes up stating guiding might not be accurate. Around a quarter to a third of images taken show guiding issues. Calibration used to take 6-10 steps in each direction before with few issues with guiding.
When guiding constantly losing stars when they're clearly visible, I've had one mount consistently lose them after less than 5 images taken, so I have to manually restart the plan and it keeps happening again. My last session the tracking toggle on my mount kept stopping automatically at the same frequency hence losing the target and again having to restart the plan constantly throughout the session, this also happened in autorun mode, there's no issue with meridian settings or limits on the mount.
Update has killed my pro. WiFi range was poor before but I could still connect to it standing 1-2 metres away from it. Now even if my phone is touching it the connection is still poor, as a result I cannot do anything useful with it, focusing for example won't update as it keeps losing connection or being very very slow. To add to this problem, due to the poor in built WiFi since I bought it, I've been using an externally powered usb WiFi extender connected via the ethernet port of the pro, station mode settings are all setup. I cannot connect to the WiFi extender. It had all been working fine before the update. Even though I've bought a mini, I am not going to buy another air to replace the pro I have which was working before the update, your update has done something to the WiFi control of the unit.
As you can see, this is not an isolated experience, it is a multitude of problems across a number of rigs and airs which I have been using for months prior, the only change is the latest update and also my new mini.
I need to know, as a customer of your products what you are going to do about this as a matter of urgency as some of the issues I've described above have been reported for months/years by other users prior to me experiencing them.
The absolute minimum as an international trading company you should be doing is uploading to an official ZWO website older versions of the app and firmware with accurate instructions for how users can revert back to previous working software versions.
Updates are supposed to improve a product, not ruin them completely.
