ASIAIR Plus with new AM5 new Wi-Fi interruptions

Just received a new AM5 mount. I’ve been seamlessly using ASIAIR Plusfor over a month, ASI2600mcp on old Orion Altas mount. Couldn’t get that mount to communicate so I had to polar align plus 3 star align and use PHD2 with laptop outside. Auto runs were perfect. So I went for the AM5 to have full communication and eliminate the need for a laptop.

So, first I realized ASI wouldnt even pop up in the Wi-Fi unless I disconnected the camera…weird. From other posts it seemed a power issue powering the ASIAIR through the AM5.

I then did the reverse, powering AM5 through the ASIAIR figuring the Wi-Fi needed more power. ASIAIR did pop up as a Wi-Fi option but it kept disappearing.

So I powered them separately, AC to the ASIAIR and battery via DC to AM5 keeping the usb fromAIR to AM5. It was now working! And I guided through the the ASIAIR app on my iPad for the first time….success.

But, there were definitely many more Wi-Fi interruptions I never had before. Every few minutes I would say. Out of 10 images set for auto run only 4 were useful. Each download was also ridiculously slow…sometimes a few minutes.

Any suggestions? ASIAIR firmware recently updated itself. Could I possibly receive a new mount without latest firmware. Any help appreciated.

A side problem was it seemed start autofocus through EAF itself after I was already focused…it did this twice! So I clicked EAF off to stop that.

Hoping to at least get a reply from ZWO. I am flirting with executing my 30 day return option because reliability is key and wins over doing 100% on IPad or iPhone. pHD guiding through laptop would at least continue during any WiFi lapse . AA is supposed to never lose the image during interruption but the image is useless if the guiding stops. Thanks again.

Kentmd Sorry about the issues you met. It seems the power supply is the key problem. Since you power the ASIAIR and the AM5 separately, please upload the log so we can check what happened.

About the EAF auto-toggled, there are many options under the EAF settings page - AF Settings, turn them off then no auto-toggled will happen again.

My advice will be to take some time and get to know the AA and mount. Watch videos, find documentation, ask questions and you will see that reliability is not an issue. It is very reliable and hundreds or thousands users will tell you the same.
You return it now and you will miss on a lot. Just a friendly advice.
Get a good power supply at 12V 10A and power your mount, the AA can be powered by the mount connector.
Make sure the OTA is not between the AA antenna and your mobile device/access point.

And the most important thing - WiFi disconnection does not affect anything already running. Guiding will continue and any Autoruns, Plans or active shooting will go ahead as intended.

enaiman As I said I know AA quite well just because I ask how to upload a log don’t jump to conclusions. I have many shots using AA and had very few interruptions and there are bugs if you add a device and things start happening. And yes I watched tutorials because there are no instructions with the devices.

Update…no more interruptions next night out so must have been something blocking or interfering with the WiFi. All systems working perfectly with AC power including PA plate solving once I remove the filter. Thanks for the prior post on that one!
