  • ZWO on MacBook Air - ASI Capture Not responding

I am using the ZWO ASI120MC-S with ASI Studio 1.7 on a MacBook Air with a 1.1 Ghz Quad-Core Intel core I5 plus Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1.5GB running Ventura 13.0.1.

I would have thought when I open ASI Studio on a 1 year old MacBook I would have relatively few problems. However I can't even get live capture to work during the day. I point the camera at myself and briefly see my mug staring back and then I get the whirring wheel and my laptop stops responding.

I am not running any additional software in the background. Any help appreciated I would like to take some Mars pics over the next few nights however this looks unlikely at the moment.

Greetings Hudson, I am having similar problems with my Macbook Pro and the ASIStudio suite. I too am running 13.1 but being an older machine it has only a Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 2.3 GHz, 1 processor, 4 cores, 8 GB of memory, with a 500 GB hard drive. I am trying to get my ASI585MC to talk to its software without going all wobbly.
I too have had trouble getting the ASILive to load & be stable. It hangs most of the time and I have had to ForceQuit the thing. It then gets the grumps and refuses to reload without a full reboot of the laptop.
I have sent the ForceQuit details to ZWO.
Melbourne [Australia] is once again cloudy so, like you, I can't experiment 'in the wild' yet. We have had cloud for about 2 months now; well maybe with about 6 clear nights but only just.
I hope that you solve your issues. I'll let you know how I get on.
    Cheers.

    Hi Hudson,
Just a quick update. On second use of Studio it seemed to be a good deal more stable. I was able to load it and swap between sections without the app freezing or misbehaving in some other way. Hopefully my skills improve & Studio continues to improve too.
    Cheers.

Hi Hudson, again. A final update, the ASIStudio seems to be working very well across the elements of the studio. I have found that it seems most stable if it is in the ‘Applications’ folder. I am experimenting with loading it from an external SSD to see if that will help save disc space.
Since my first comment I have added a ZWO EAF to the train. This is being well tolerated & if the weather would clear up for longer than one or two nights I would do more settling down.
Best of luck with your ventures.
    James

AussieJames If you encounter this problem again, please provide a recording video, it will be very helpful for us. Or remote assistance. Thanks!

ASIStudio@ZWO Okay,I’ll keep that in mind if I run into any problems in the future. At present it all seems to be working well both in the capture and the processing side. At present I am still getting used to coordinating between the various elements of the setup. Cheers.
