AM5 latest firmware beta v1.2.2 is released for test

I have had a couple of evenings testing the 1.2.2 firmware in alt-az mode. I go home first (mount is pointing north) then pick a star and sync. Then to another and sync and so on. The stars are always outside of a 2º field (some pretty bad 3-4º off) when doing this, before the sync. It never gets any better. But if I go back to a star I synced on it will be in a 2º field. If I sync on more than 5-6 stars the first stars I aligned on are no longer in the 2º field as before. It is like the firmware is "storing" so many syncs (the coordinates) but then it starts losing them. Hope this is helpful and looking forward to a real multi-star alignment.

I am as well. Really wanting a good goto in the alt-az mode. The tracking seems to be fine. Just wish the clouds would leave so could do some testing and just be able to look up. 🙂

It is strange. The old version could return to the last synced star and that was all as it had no mulit-star alignment. This new 1.2.2 will return to the last several synced stars before it culls the earliest syncs. That is why I shared it seems like it is "storing" so many syncs then drops them. I have no better way to explain it, just sharing what is happening here. Hopeful the devs will jump on this and get it lined out. Patience I guess.

jeremiah2229 It sounds like this is just syncing to a few stars and not actually improving the overall alignment. It might be better if they just add a two or three-star alignment option.

Since he mentioned "visual," I think that he means to center the object using an eyepiece that has an illuminated double-crosshair reticle. I still keep one of those eyepieces around.

Basically, GOTO a known bright star, center the star in the eyepiece using RA and declination slew keys, then sync the mount. This last step tells the mount "the star is here, and not where the initial GOTO went to." Thus equivalent to a plate solve.

I am visual and when I say "field" I am referring to the 2º field in an eyepiece. The goto star is usually in the field of the RACI but at times right on the edge of it and the RACI is 5 or 6 degrees, whatever a Skywtacher 8x50 is. Obviously the firmware still needs work on the multi-star alignment routine. Perhaps just a wee programming error and easy to fix?

I do some test tonight,first I make the mount roughly point north, then goto Jupiter, the Jupiter is not in field of eyepiece, then I slew it in the center of field, and click "Sync", then I goto "Rigel A", it is in the edge of field,
I also center it and sync, then goto Betelgeuse, do same. then Capella, moon. goto accuracy gradually improves.
The next goto will use the nearest position recorded.

This is not happening here, accuracy is not improving. I use the hand controller to center then sync. I do not use the ASI Mount app to center in the eyepiece. Does it matter if using the hand controller or the app?

jeremiah2229 the "Sync" action, need do like this, after center the target, in APP starmap, clieck the target, then click "Sync" button,make sure the real posion is sync to the mount, slew could use handcontrol.

broscheanu Neither versions 1.2.1 or 1.2.2 of the firmware extend tracking 60 min after the meridian.

The current ASCOM driver does not support v1.2.2 60min tracking after MF feature yet. Will support it soon.

I was finally able to get out to test the 1.2.2 FW version again for goto in alt-az mode. Mount is level and pointed north. Turn mount on and send it to home (it is in the home position from last use when I turn it on but tried both ways) and goto a target. It is not in a two degree field of the eyepiece but in the RACI field. Center the target using the hand controller then tap the target in the AM5 Mount app then sync. Goto next target and it is the same, not in the two degree eyepiece field but in the RACI so do the same as before. Did this on 7 or 8 targets and it is the same in all. Never in the two degree field of the eyepiece (sometimes even 4 degrees off). Then I retraced by steps and went back to the targets I had already sync'ed on. Half were in the eyepiece field and the other half were not, out by 3 to 4 degrees. So this mount is not accurate or the multi-star code needs more work??

Now what??
