Is there any reason the ASIAIR Plus fails to find my location? My tablet has GPS and my GPS app shows I have connection with enough satellites to get signal. When I refresh my Air Plus it says " Locate Failed. Code=4".

The ASIAIR device needs to be given its location by the ASIAIR app. Unlike INDIGO, for example, the ASIAIR device does not know how to work with the NMEA protocol from GPS devices.

So the ASIAIR app has to obtain the location through the tablet's Location Services, and send that to the ASIAIR device.

In turn, to obtain location, the ASIAIR app needs to be given permission by the OS in the tablet to access the Location Service.

The first time you launched ASIAIR app on the tablet, the app should have asked you for permission. If you had not done so at that time, just follow the links below on how to do it after the fact.

I'll check this tomorrow and hopefully it will resolve it. I'm pretty sure I checked the app's permissions and allowed it to access Android's location sensing. Sometimes, when outside under the sky, the air plus app does pick up the location from the tablet's GPS and sometimes it does not. I'll check the app's permissions tomorrow and see if they are set correctly.

If the ASIAIR app succeeds in getting the location (even once), then it is probably not a permissions issue.

Almost sounds more like not enough satellites in view. Do you have an app on your tablet that you can use to check? If you have a GPS dongle and a MacBook, you can check this old program that I had written from a whiile ago:

Scroll down to "NMEA (GPS) Monitor." It shows satellites, and SNR and alt-az of the strongest satellites.

It is not the end of the world if you cannot get a GPS fix. Just manually enter the location at the left of entry page of the ASIAIR app:

Air Plus definitely has the location permission, as I thought, so that's not the issue. It may be that my Android tablet doesn't have a high-quality GPS receiver, as the GPS app on the tablet takes much longer finding enough satellites compared to my Android cell phone (same app on both) which gets the GPS signal very quickly. So you're right, if I am out of the city at a dark sky site I can get the coordinates from my cell phone and punch them in manually to the ASIAIR app. I suspect it's the tablet's GPS capability...

Anyone else still has that issue? I'm getting the same error code when trying to use location from my device. It's nothing major, I can enter it manually but would be nice to have it automated. I'm on Android 13 and all permissions for app are there

code=4 (just for android) means that it is currently unable to access the Internet to obtain location information. You can switch the Wi-Fi of your mobile phone to a Wi-Fi that can access the Internet, and then tap the button to refresh the location on the ASIAIR App interface, and then reconnect the Wi-Fi to ASIAIR after the location is successfully obtained.

PMTeam@ZWO hmm, didn't really think that it needs wifi. That means i can't use it outside my home. Was under impression that it's receiving GPS coordinates from my phones location. Can we have that as a feature?
