camera fan not working

I recently upgraded asi studio to latest and all drivers, my fan is still not working it is set to 15", i even recently ordered new fan still not working with software it does go on but as soon as i plug it into computer and put cooler on it stops working I'm using a 12 volt adapter so i know its nothing to do with any of my cables, can someone please tell me what the problem is?

The fan will turn on when you first connect the camera to power, but not yet connected software to the camera. So the first part of the behavior that you saw is correct, and moreover shows you have enough power feeding the camera and the fan is working.

Now, once you connect the camera to a program, the cooler and the fan in the camera will turn off (again, same as what you observed), since the cooler state of the program will also be off.

The fan should only then turn on if you asked for it to turn on and the cooler is actually active. If the cooler is not actually active, the ZWO cameras (at least an ASI2600MM or MC) will also turn the fan off.

So, you might check the setpoint temperature of your camera and see if it is say, 10ºC or so below the room temperature, after manking sure you have turned on the cooler in your program.

I just tried this with an ASI2600MM connected to a Mac Studio running ASICap in ASIStudio v1.8.1 and can confirm that it behaves as I described above.

Connected camera (with power) to computer, the fan in the camera runs.

Connected ASICap v2.8.1 to the camera, and fan stops.

Open the Control (icon with blue circle and three dots -- who would have thunk it represents "More control"!) , tap on the TEMP tab, turn on the Turn On Cooler button, and set Target Temp. to 3ºC and voila, the fan comes on after a second of two of latency.

Switched off the "Turn On Cooler" button, and fan goes off.

Do you mean the fan work when you connect to PC, but does not work when you turn on the cooler?

i have just looked on asilive and the is not a blue circle with three dots, all i can see is the cooler and you either select it or deselect it but i always have it selected and fan still don't work

Mirrorgirl The fan runs when you power it, but stop run when you turn on the cooler in the software. Do I understand that right?

Ah, now we are getting somewhere.

This is what ASICAP looks like, when connected to an ASI2600MM:

The blue dotted icon is at the lower right hand corner of this screen capture. And when you tap on that, you get this popup window:

There is a "Turn On Cooler" checkbox. If you cannot get to that, you cannot turn the cooler on.

Since you mentioned ASIlive, I took a look at it (I don't usually use ASIStudio, except for quick indoor focus tests, using ASICAP). In ASIlive, the cooler is on the main Camera window itself (and tehere is no cooler temperature curve):

The cooler checkbox is at the bottom of the above screen capture. Select a temperature, and click on the checkbox.

As I had mentioned earlier, If the setpoint temperature is above ambient temperature, the cooler will not turn on . If you are doing an indoor test, select a temperature that is about 10ºC lower than room temperature, and click Cooler.
