Psy1280 Trying to follow your instructions, are you saying that the ASIAIR will be powered by the mount's power and not directly from the ASIAIR power supply that I've been using? Not clear on this.
No, power the mount directly from your power source, not through one of ASIAIR's DC power outlets. Likewise, if your mount has DC outlets, don't power the ASIAIR from it; power the ASIAIR directly from the supply.
Power both of them off same single power supply so that the ASIAIR and the Mount have a common ground return.
Basically, I am suggesting that you try to get to the most basic baseline possible to coax the thing to work. Once the mount can be seen, you can start building everything back, one step at a time, to see what it is that caused a problem.
Except for the first generation ASIAIR (which was USB 2.0-only), USB ports on the ASIAIR have appeared to be problematical, causing people to have to "tune" cables to it. You might be in that group of folks, and tuning the cables (find different brands, different lengths, etc) may work for you, too.
Stripping everything down to the bare basics first is a good way to diagnose a problem. Don't try to debug something that has too many possible failure points. You might want to start with a short USB cable directly between the ASIAIR and the mount (you may have to temporarily move the ASIAIR near to the mount).
By the way, have you tried unplugging the USB cable to the mount and plugging it back in between step 6 and step 7?
