Hi all. First I wanted to thank Chen w7ay (and everyone else) again for his incredible help to understand the basics to tune the AM5 guiding setup. I’ve used the AM5 for several months now. Always with the 294Mm pro, the WO Z73 and the 120 mini for guiding.
At first (4-6 nights) I could only get 0-8-1’5 RMS (depending on the object altitude and the seeing ).
After reading this post a couple of times and following Chen’s advice, it improved to 0,6-0, 8 . I was still discouraged because my mount was supposed to be one of the good ones.
Then, somewhere else, I read about the importance of the PA routine (not that I didn't know it or wasn't aware of it's importance, I considered enaugh just getting below 1 arcminute when doing PA ) . But I remembered that I wasn't being thorough. The fact was that I never tighten up the mount bolts?(I don't know the name of that parts of the mount) because whenever I tried to lock them up I damaged my PA, so
I always skipped that step.
Now, it's already been 4 nights of taking the time to lock everything firmly though my PA routine has become kind of slow. But the results are amazing, even shooting low objects for me like M8 and M20 yesterday; I get always below 0,6 RMS, and very frequently under 0, 45.… even below 0, 3!!!!!! for several minutes.
I wanted to share this here because it is where I began my journey with the AM5 to stress the importance of all the aspects and steps before starting the shooting and perhaps helping someone making my same mistakes. (I’m gonna sell my eq6-t-pro to buy a second am5 (I always go with two riggs )
Thanks again.
